General weather conditions in Race areaBased on Danish Met Office statistical information and climatology, theweather off the coast of Skovshoved can be described as follows for the month of August:: - Average wind speeds is 3,8 m/s in 24 hours and 4,6 m/s during the daytime.
- The prevailing wind directions are: West (39%), Northwest (13%) and Southwest (12%).
- In August the gradient is normally weak, and the wind is the heavily influenced by the sea breeze.
- The sea at Skovshoved is a relative narrow sound separating Denmark from Sweden (see map below), and in the race area the wind will be influenced by sea breeze both from the Danish and the Swedish coast.
- The sea breeze has a wind speed of normally 8-10 m/s, occasionally up to 13 m/s.
- Sometimes lows are passing close to Denmark and strong winds can occur. Statistic data from the last 30 years are avialable and show a few situations with wind up to 20 m/s.
